National Handball Center Concludes Successful Spring Youth Handball Session

The U.S. National Handball Center Spring Youth Handball Session began in early March and concluded in May with an end-of-session tournament. More than 25 youth players participated in the lessons, with nearly all of them being brand new to the sport. Lessons were held every Thursday evening and Sunday afternoon, giving participants plenty of time to learn “The Perfect Game.”

Players started by learning the basic strokes and fundamentals of handball before progressing to full-court matches over the course of the two-month session. Every practice concluded with the ultra-popular “Hit the Target” challenge, where each child received three attempts to hit a target on the front wall while fellow participants cheered them on. Prizes were awarded each time a player successfully hit the target.

The Spring Session wrapped up with a tournament featuring 18 competitors across three divisions: full court, short court, and fun division. After competition concluded, the kids enjoyed pizza, soda, and desserts together.

A special thank you goes out to Hinder Club members Kevin Pettus, Catherine Pettus, Ross Colyer, Taylor Bell, Scottie Moler, and Victoria Castillo for volunteering their time to help teach the next generation of handball players. Another big thank you goes to Will Goldstein and Jim Ward for generously providing post-practice pizza for the kids on multiple occasions throughout the session.

The Summer Youth Handball Session is expected to begin in mid-June. Help spread the word to any kids ages 18 and under who may be interested in learning the sport. More information on the summer session will be announced soon.
